Dads Obituary

Ronald Milton Beckstrand (1959-2014) Ronald Milton Beckstrand our loving husband, father and grandpa, “Pop,” peacefully passed away on November 23, 2014 after a long and courageous fight with kidney cancer.
Ron was born on May 12, 1959 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Joseph and Jean Beckstrand.  Ron was the fifth of six children and had many memories of growing up in Bountiful. He spent many fun summers playing in Meadow.  He attended and graduated from Viewmont High School.  Following high school, Ron served an honorable LDS mission to Atlanta, Georgia, that changed his life forever.  Not long after returning from his mission, he met his sweetheart Lori Rae Anderson.  They were married and sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on April 28, 1983.  They were blessed with three children who have brought much joy and happiness into their lives.  Ron loved his family and serving in the church.  As an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he had the opportunity to serve as Young Men’s President, Bishopric Counselor, High Councilor, Stake Young Men’s President and was currently serving as the Bishop of the West Bountiful 7th Ward whom he loved dearly. His greatest desire was to serve the Lord and be a valiant servant in His kingdom.  He was a quiet example of service and did his best to emulate the Savior.  All who knew him could see the strength of his testimony by the way he lived his life.  Ron himself stated in a letter to his sweetheart, “I wanted to always be active in the church.  I don't mean just going to church, but take an active role.  Always be willing to accept the calls that would come.  The Lord would provide a way for His work to go forward even in the midst of my weaknesses. He would provide.”
He earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Utah State University in Business Marketing.  He spent his life in service to his family and others leaving his family with a legacy of service.  His greatest desire was for his family to love the Lord.  Some of his fondest memories were spent in the mountains hunting with his sons and camping with his family.  He loved to go on long four wheeling rides and watch for deer.  His mountain man breakfast was unrivaled and loved by all.  Sitting outside his trailer and sharing stories with family was a favorite.  Ron loved and enjoyed spending time with his three girlies (granddaughters) Emma, Grace and Maggie.  He was a huge part of their lives and loved coming to every event in which they were involved. He will always be their “Pop.” He loved his career with Schreiber Foods, which he would fondly refer to as his “Schreiber Family.” We will be forever thankful for the love and support they all showed to him.  Ron loved to travel with his sweetheart. They had many great adventures together.  He will be missed by all who knew him, but mostly by his sweetheart and children.

He is survived by his wife, Lori Rae Beckstrand, his children Lindsey Kay Hill (Preston), Logan Ron (Lauren), and Chase William (Kaylee), his granddaughters Emma Rae, Grace Susan, Maggie Kay, and he was anxiously awaiting a new baby Beckstrand. He is also survived by his siblings Sandra, Janice Hough (Bryan), Craig (Tylene), Neil (Laurie), and Mark (Karin). He was preceded in death by his parents and his in-laws, Kay and Julene Anderson.  A viewing will be held at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 North Main, Bountiful, Utah, on Sunday, November 30, 2014 from 6 - 8 pm. Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 1, 2014 at 11:00 am at the Bountiful Utah Stonecreek Stake Center, 990 North 100 West, Bountiful, Utah.  A viewing will also be held prior to the funeral from 9 -10:30 am. Internment will be at the Bountiful City Cemetery. The family would like to express their gratitude and deep appreciation to all those who gave Ron such love and care at the Huntsman Cancer Institute and especially Dr. Neeraj Agarwal. Thanks are also extended to the wonderful friends, neighbors, and ward members who have taken time to support Ron and his family these past two years. Those who wish to express their condolences may do so on the online guest book at Russonmortuary.com.

We sure Love this very special grand-daughter of ours!!

Then it was back to the Huntsman for some iron and a bone infusion.  Ron has been doing "OK" he still has a darn limp, and gets tired very easy.   But thats me complaining, not Ron, all he says is, "that darn cancer!"  We have scans coming up the Monday and Tuesday before Thanksgiving so we can begin the scan anxiety then.  But until then we will enjoy the time together and get ready for the holidays which are always fun in our house!!!

October Visit 2014

Tuesday October 7th Ron had his "LONG" day at the Huntsman.  But it was amazing what a good day it was.  We got there and they did labs as usual, then we went to the infusion room for around 4 1/2 hours so he could get the infusion for his bones, and his iron.  Went back to other side of the hospital and had 2 different doctor visits.  One with his pain doc and the other with his oncology doc.  Both went really well! His pain is being very well managed right now and he's able to just about do anything he would want to do!!! So GOOD!!!  Then to his oncologist he couldn't have been more happy to see Ron! It was really actually fun.  He said he is just amazed at how good Ron looks and how pleased he is that the medication he is on seem to be working so well.  He really feels that the combination of the iron and chemo are doing good things to Ron.  He's never seen this before.  The chemo Ron is on is the lowest dose and least effective on Ron's kind of cancer, BUT it's working for Ron and thats all that matters to us!! It is the last chemo choice that Ron has, because he has used all the others out there and they didn't work.

But even better news is that if Ron keeps having good scans, especially his MRI (brain scan) then he may qualify for a new clinical trial that has been really promising! So we will keep being positive and see what happens!!!

As for now we get to play with our grand-daughers!!! Two years ago when Ron was told the news we set a goal that he had to be here for Emma's baptism which would be in two years!! Wow it's here and Ron will be there and better than ever!!!  So we will be setting some more goals for the next two years!! Life is really good and we are so very blessed!!!

This is our sweet Emma in her baptism dress.  She will baptized by her Dad November 1st.  She is wearing her mothers wedding dress!!!! We had it redone to fit Emma and she looks adorable!! Don't worry I will post more pictures of this wonderful event when it happens!

We got home from Green Bay and Maggie was so happy to get her sucker!!!

These cute girls were very happy to see pop!!!

We LOVE Green Bay!!!!

FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT

GreenBay Explosion What a wonderful Experience!!!

It all began with a simple e-mail.   Let me back up a little bit.  It will be 2 years this week that Ron found a little "bump" under his arm.  It turned out to be Kidney Cancer.  Over the past 2 years many things have happened.  Ron has been amazing and has been through more than I think even he thought he could do.  But he has done it!  It seems like every time we leave a doctors office they say you really should go on a trip or something while you feel good!  And I would say "Come on Ron we need to go somewhere!" He would smile and laugh and say, "I'm not sure I could do a plane ride."  So I kinda left it alone.  The last time it happened however I said to Ron, "really you don't want to go anywhere?" He said, "if I could go anywhere I would go back to Green Bay."  With a tear in his eye, he said, "I would love to see the new office, it's now completed and if I could sit through a packers game that would be great!"

Well that was my new challenge.  So I thought, Mike Haddad would be able to get the ball rolling.  All I wanted was some help getting the tickets and  I would do the rest.  But in Schreiber style they helped me a whole lot more than that!!  I had the doctors give Ron the news that he was going to Green Bay.  I love what he said at the end.... "I get to see my friends!"  That is truly the way Ron feels about the people he worked with at Schreiber, they are all his friends and what a great event it was for him to get to see so many of them!!

So off to Green Bay we went!!!
First stop, to meet Logan in Minneapolis and then on to Green Bay....

This was such a happy Day!!!!

 Look out for that BEAR!!!!!
Like father like son.....

Logan, Lindsey and Chase, our 3 children all grown up.  We had such a fun time with them!!!

The view from our seats!!! I know I keep saying amazing but it sure was!!!

Did I mention that our seats were right next to the Press Box!!! Phil Sims waved at Logan and it was so funny how cool Logan thought that was!!! But it was really fun to watch all that went on in that box!  They never sat and never stopped!!!
Yes this was the "Dessert Cart"  Pick anything you want and let it melt in your mouth!!! It was yes AMAZING!!!!!
One of the EVP'S with Schreiber Jerry Symth took the kids to the peak of the sky board the view of the field from the highest point!! Really fun for them to do!!!
Our Family in front of the Box, the game is about to end, Green Bay did not disappoint us!!!
Ron with Mike Haddad, the President and CEO of Schreiber Foods, who made the entire trip possible! We will be forever grateful to him for his kindness!!!
The next day we made it to the new office!!! Ron was so excited he was up at the crack of dawn and ready to go!! We were all ready to go and on time!! Ron was so excited to be here!!
All I can say is that it was truly like a parade of people who just kept on coming to say Hi and give Ron a Hug!!! It was so good to see and so good for Ron!! He has missed these people so much!!! The prayers that have been given on his behalf have been felt!!! What a wonderful thing it was for our family to get to see this love for Ron so openly displayed!!!

Taking a tour of the offices.

At the top of the office
Ron and Amy Bigari (Assistant to the Pres. and CEO) she was so wonderful to help me with all the plans!!! Love her so much!!!!
 Ron and Mike
Logan and Chase soaking in all they can and learning from some wonderful men!!!
Ron with Amy and Mike
One more with me and Amy,  she was so much fun to work with.  She really did it all!!! I Love her so much and will always be so thankful to her for helping with this little surprise for Ron!!!

The kids sat with Amy and watched as their dad was greeted by the partners who had come to see him.  It was fun for them to see how many people loved their Dad!
That night we had dinner at Bret Favre's Stake House YUM!!

The next day before we got on a plane to come home the kids went and took a tour of Lambeau Field, Chase can now check off another item on his list of things he always wanted to do!!!

And so our trip came to an end! It is one that will never be forgotten!!!

Ron and I are so very thankful to all the people who came to see him, sent notes and made phone calls to wish us a great time.  The kids and I had never been to Green Bay,  so to be able to go with Ron and have him tell us of the many streets he had walked as he worked for Schreiber  was a really fun thing for us to do.  It truly was a chance of a lifetime!!!

Confucius said, "He who wishes to secure the good of others, has already secured his own." Mike Haddad really did show us the good in him this week and we are forever blessed from his kindness!

And so we are home and back to reality, but we can not complain!!! Ron has doctors appointments on Tuesday, as well as his iron and bone infusion.  So back to the Huntsman we will go.

"Faith in God includes faith in His purposes as well as in His timing.  We cannot fully accept Him while rejecting His schedule.  We cannot worship Him but insist on our plans."  Neal A. Maxwell

And so we will continue to have faith and continue to FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT!!!
